RIDE with Norman Reedus comes to Honbu Dojo

 

On April 30th, we had the pleasure of welcoming actors NORMAN REEDUS (Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead, and Murphy MacManus in The Boondock Saints) and MICHAEL ROOKER (Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead, Henry in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and Yondu Udonta in Guardians of the Galaxy vols. 1 & 2).

 

Michael Rooker, a native of Jasper, Alabama, has an extensive background in Martial Arts training, which includes a long history in Kyokushin Karate.  Both Michael Rooker and his instructor, Sensei Taku Nakasaka (LA Kyokushin Dojo) are great admirers of Saiko Shihan Y. Oyama.  When Norman Reedus asked Michael Rooker to be his guest on a Season 4 episode of RIDE with Norman Reedus (currently in production) Rooker thought it would be a great opportunity to finally visit World Oyama Karate Honbu Dojo in Birmingham and meet Saiko Shihan Y. Oyama.  The show is on AMC Channel and is a travel documentary show.  It features motorcycle enthusiast Norman Reedus, who travels the country on motorcycle with a different celebrity guest each week.  More information about the show and clips from Season 3 (currently airing) can be found the show’s homepage:  https://www.amc.com/shows/ride-with-norman-reedus

 

At Rooker’s request, Sensei Nakasaka contacted Saiko Shihan, who then coordinated with the show’s production team to set up the training and interview that was filmed yesterday.  We hope you enjoy these pictures from the dojo and will keep you informed about the Season 4 episode as it gets closer to the air date.
